Sandra Nixon previously served as a Richmond school board trustee for eight years, from 2014 to 2022, including as Board Chairperson from 2020 to 2022 and as Policy chair for six years.

A longtime Richmond resident, United Church minister and community leader, Sandra is also a mother of two young adults who attended Richmond public schools. Sandra is a bridge-builder who brings a proven record of strong, collaborative leadership along with extensive experience in fiscal oversight, governance, advocacy, policy development, and parent & community engagement.

Currently, Sandra is a member of the Richmond Poverty Reduction Coalition and serves as president of the board of Granville Gardens Housing Co-op, continuing her long record of community leadership beyond the school board.

She is a determined advocate for student mental health supports and alternative programs, as well as inclusive, well-supported and future-ready classrooms and schools. Sandra’s goal is to ensure students feel a sense of belonging, connection and support at school, and are equipped to shape their future with confidence!
