Biography
David Yang (he/him) is an incumbent Richmond school trustee first elected in 2022, and served as board vice chair from 2024 to 2025.
He is also a public sector professional in the BC Public Service and has called Richmond home for the past 20 years. Growing up in an immigrant family, David attended elementary and high school in the city centre before completing a Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of British Columbia in 2020.
David is also deeply committed to community service, with an extensive track record of leadership and volunteerism. He previously served as a citizen appointee to the Richmond Sister City Advisory Committee and coached with the Richmond Minor Ball Hockey Association. As a former student in the Richmond School District, David served as a district student leader and Richmond Green Ambassador, advocating for student and youth issues, including student voice, climate change and sustainability, and access to mental health support. He is also previously a member of the BC Youth Parliament.
David believes that Richmond deserves an equitable, safe, and inclusive public school system for all students, regardless of their identity or ability. This means making decisions that best support students so that they all have an opportunity to thrive and reach their full potential. David is committed to offering a diverse perspective focused on modernizing educational facilities, supporting student well-being, and ensuring schools meet the needs of future generations.
